Hello, my name is Licensed Cosmetologist!

So, for the few of you who actually read this, I would like to inform you of how my past 2 months have gone and then there will be understanding as to why I have not posted.
Going back to June…I think is when my latest post was..?..anyways, that was the month one of my best friends got married. ~Did I mention I did her hair…and her mother’s hair and 3 of the bridesmaids hair…oh yes, and the grooms hair? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Because I totally did, and it was fun. And HECTIC. But fun. ANYWHO! After that I took a 5 second breather from life, so to speak, and then started preparations for my cosmetology state board examinations!!! YAAAYYY!!! -_-
I will be honest…those exams suck. Like, I never, ever, ever, Ever, EVER, want to go through anything like those EVER, again. Really. It was single-handedly (however you spell it) THE most NERVEWRACKING experience in my entire life up to this point. There is So much you have to do. Not just come up with a crap ton of money to get supplies and pay for the exams (shout out to my dad by the way, withouT him, I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish this goal), but making sure you have all your supplies and have them in their proper baggies and EVERYTHING properly labeled and your kit packed strategically. You gotta make sure you do the services in the right steps, and you follow every rule you can possibly think of in the entire universe that could even remotely apply to this field. So, I super studied and unpacked and packed and repacked and super checked my kit over 9,000 times…I just want to say that when I was in that examination room…I never felt most UNLIKE myself. It was like this pathetic, whimpering, dumb baby replaced me…at least for the first few minutes. I was shaking so bad cuz I was SO nervious, I wanted to just curl up in the fetal position and cry like a small infant and then run as far away from that place as I could.
Obviously though, I didn’t do any of that…that’s just the best way I can describe my insides and such feeling. I put my big girl panties on and kicked that exams ass! ๐Ÿ™‚ When I got done, I really did want to puke though. Haha. After that, the theory portion was next…and I was nervous because I’m not a fan of things when they are worded weird…and I had been told that they worded things weird for that exam. Truthfully, they were, but it was easy peasy! Long story not-so-short…I got my license!! Since having my license, which by the way it’s been technically 5 days now…I have had a first interview with a local salon-with the technical interview scheduled for next week, and a technical interview (had the first one like last month) with a salon a little farther away! I don’t know what will become of either of these ventures but I am looking up and very excited for my future. I want to thank my mom and dad for thoroughly supporting me through beauty school to the present moment and praying for me. I appreciate all you guys have done and I want to make you proud, I love you!!! I also want to thank my brother for all the support he has given me and I want to wish him all the best luck during his first year in college! I love you! Thanks to all my other friends and family who have also supported and helped me.

I think that is all for the night cuz now I need to get a decent amount of sleep tonight. Goodnight!

Except P.S: Fun fact #1- the day I got my license was the day one of my best friends passed her practicals! Good luck to her tomorrow on the written! (Even though she’s super brainy and gots this in the bag!)

Fun fact #2: I wasn’t having a great day today really, but I stopped off at Sallys on my way home from work (the girl, and ladies there are so sweet by the way), to get some hair color and nail clippers, when the girl asked for my “sallys card” I handed her my student card that I’ve had for FOREVER..and she takes it and then looks at me and is like “YOU GET TO LEVEL UP!” ( she knows I recently got my license…does this give a hint to how often I go there? haha) so I got to get my new sallies card as a professional cosmetologist!! ๐Ÿ™‚ THAT made my day.

But for realz. Goodnight now! (=

Crock Pot Beef Carnitas Tacos

So! I have not actually made this recipe yet..for lack of ingredients, but I wanted to share it because it looks and sounds OH SO DELICIOUS!!! I got it from a friend who posted it on facebook from somewhere she got it..haha.

serves 6-8

2 lbs flank steak
1 yellow onion, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1 red bell pepper, chopped
1 jalapeno, seeded and chopped

for spice rubโ€”

2 tsp chili powder
1 tsp cumin
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper

for servingโ€”

corn tortillas
avocado slices
your favorite salsa

Mix together all spices in a small bowl. Rub the spices all over your flank steakโ€”be generous here! Then, place your steak at the bottom of your crock pot.

Cover the steak with the chopped onions, bell peppers and jalapeno pepper. Turn heat on LOW and cook for 8 hours.

After 8 hours, remove meat from crock pot and shred with a fork. It should be incredibly easy to shred. You can either stick the shredded meat back in the pot for another hour or serve as is.

To serve, heat your corn tortillas in a skillet on the stove. Spoon some carnitas on a tortilla then top with salsa, avocado, cilantro and a squeeze of lime.

Enjoy with a margarita for best result.

Research: Mustelidae.

Mustela putorius furoย is the scientific name for the common domesticated ferret – of which I have 2..and am hoping to get a 3rd. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Anyways, I’ve been doing some extra research on them as of late…and I keep getting even more fascinated by them. Also, I just fall more in love with them with every word I read. ๐Ÿ˜‰

For some background though, I got my ferrets Molly (a Sable Mask) and Goku (an albino) about 2 years ago. They were welcomed into my heart roughly 2 months apart, Molly was first, then came Goku. Before we purchased them we did do research because we believe in knowing and being prepared in how to take proper care of your animals!

Anywho, the reason for my more recent research, is their diet. If any of you have been into Pet Supplies Plus, you know they have bags of food for the animals or that food buffet thing, I don’t know it’s technical name, that is sometimes cheaper than the bags (and vise versa obviously). We generally get the Marshall food from said food buffet, but they didn’t have Marshall, they had a different brand but we figured it would be fine. As it turns out, they haven’t taken to it as keenly as I would like. Generally they delve right into their food, but since this new food…I’ve had to refill their bowl much less often. Even in the past when we were tighter on the monies, we couldn’t afford to buy their food right when they were out or a day or so before, so we would substitute cat food in place of theirs. Now, I know you are not advised to do that but tough times call for extreme measure. When we did that, they still ate a butt ton of it! The only affect it seemed to have on them was it changed the color of their poop.

In my research I’ve learned that I could give them some canned cat food because its high in proteins and fats. I knew that ferrets have a small digestive track and literally cannot digest fruits and vegetables, so I’ve never given them those types of things, but for some reason I wasn’t sure about giving them the canned cat foods. Another good thing about that would be it adding moisture to their diet instead of just having water. Raw egg yolk is also something I found out they can eat…I read eggs before and just figured I’d fry them up real fast but the raw egg yolk (no whites) gives them extra nutrients. I also found they can eat raw chicken bits and lower quality beef that is high in fat, with it being raw it not only gives them the nutrients but also helps strengthen their jaw and neck muscles as well as their teeth. I’m so excited to try giving them these newer (to me and their diet) and more natural foods. But, my research is not done!

Molly..she is more of the trouble maker than Goku.

Molly..she is more of the trouble maker than Goku.

Fun Fact: Because ferrets are naturally curious and troublemakers..they like to get into everything..and hide. Haha. When I come home and check on them or want to play, Goku comes running up to me..Molly on the other hand likes to just chill wherever she is and stay hidden. When I can’t find her, I look at Goku and say things like “Where’s Molly?” “Where’s your sister?” “Go find Molly!” It always takes him a minute, but he never fails to lead me to her. =] Its so adorable.

transplanted my ever-growing sunflowers to a bigger pot!! ๐Ÿ™‚ i’m so excited watching them grow and prosper!

Now that summer is here, I just keep seeing such pretty flowers and I want them ALL! Haha. My boyfriend doesn’t find them necessary but they make me happy. Along with all the pretty flowers, I keep stumbling upon some pretty interesting recipes, hence the thai basil and cilantro! I’m pretty ecstatic for my coming days off. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The above picture is an un-named “salad.” The last portion of the post will be the recipe.

It has cucumbers, avocados, cherry tomatoes, onions, cilantro, minced garlic, lime juice, olive oil, salt, and pepper.
I have been wanting to eat healthier and such for a while so I finally went out and bought vegetables and fruits and blah blah…so I picked up an avocado in the store, because my friend loves them and says they are amazing. I figured why not. So I bought it. I got home and realized, I had never actually had an avocado before…(besides guacamolie)..which meant I didn’t know how it tasted. What do I do? Not google it lol. Instead I contact my friends mother, asking how best to eat an avocado. She sends me the above recipe and today (2 days later) I finally try it. AND IT WAS AMAZING. I have dabbled in cooking so I knew what all my other ingredients tasted like so I adjusted the amounts of things to make sure everything came together nicely.

It turned out awesome. Even my mother in law, who hates raw onions, loved it. She didn’t even pick out the onions. ๐Ÿ™‚ We also brain stormed and figured if one doesn’t like it as is, you can simply eat it with tortilla strips, or make it into a sandwich, or put it on little biscotti pieces. Heads up, I tamed down the cilantro quite a bit and it was still slightly overpowering.

  • 4 cups avocados, diced medium
  • 2 cups grape (or cherry) tomatoes
  • 2 cups cucumbers, peeled and diced medium
  • 1 cup red onion, diced small
  • 4 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons fresh garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • salt (as needed)
  • black pepper (as needed)

Toss all ingredients in a bowl, or on a bed of lettuce.
